Teachers are always asked to GET RESULTS! It's so frustrating! Any of you administer MCLASS? The question stems are exasperating! They are SO HARD for our little friends to read and understand. And yet, we have to show GROWTH!
My first grade team brainstormed and came up with the idea of putting together all the MCLASS question stems and exposing our guided reading groups to at least one question a week. The questions are organized 10 to a page and can either be printed on AVERY labels for easy peel and stick or the questions can be cut. We keep all the question stems organized in a three ring binder.
After reading the leveled reader, just choose an appropriate question stem to match the text. The students quickly stick or glue the question in their reading notebooks and we discuss the question, what it means and how to answer it. When it came time for testing at the end of the year, we got great results!
Included in this pack are question stems from level F through U!
If you can't fight the system, find a way to teach it! :)
