Handout this two sided reference sheet to your students to help them properly format their works cited entries using MLA 8 format. Side one displays the core elements of a works cited entry, along with the proper punctuation to separate each element. Examples of specific formatting for six types of sources age given, including: book, article in a reference book, newspaper or magazine, academic journal, article or eBook from an online database, and website. For online database entries this guide displays examples that omit the URL, given that the database name clearly identifies location, but a note in the section describes where the URL should be placed if it is desired by the teacher. Additional notations describe citations for works with multiple authors, optional elements and where to get further explanations and help, such as how to cite a tweet, YouTube video, image and other electronic sources. Side two displays a properly formatted Works Cited page, with in-text parenthetical citation examples for each entry listed and text boxes with tips to help students with hanging-indents (in Word) and alphabetizing entries.
