This formative assessment probe seeks to see what student conceptions are of MLA formatting before instruction. It is a good way to see what your students already know about the topic. Place the names in four corners of the room and then have students support their choices. After formative assessment probe, you can do your typical instruction of MLA formatting. At the end of the lesson you can have student rethink or reaffirm the name of the person you think has the correct citation and move to the place in the room they think is correct. I have attached a Powerpoint with citations and work cited formatting. It also has a trivia test at end for class.
