There are two activity sheets (worksheets) here that allow students to complete quotes made by Dr. Martin Luther King. They look almost identical for those who have students with wandering eyes or to use one as practice and the other as independent practice. These can be used for small group work or as a review. This is a very simple BEGINNING use order of operations. There are only three operations per problem. I have used only addition, subtraction, multiplication (with the x symbol) and division (with the ÷ symbol). Most of the problems have the division and subtraction operation used before multiplication and addition. I also tried to use almost the same problems on each worksheet, just reversing digits when possible. Students will match their correct answer’s word to fill in the blank to complete a quote from Dr. Martin L. King.

All of these are created by me and you will probably find mistakes because I have not given this assignment to my students yet. If you do find errors, please contact me and I will correct them and send you a link to a corrected copy. I nearly always find errors when we go over the assignment in class, even though I have really tried to remove all errors! Thanks for your patience!

I think that these are worthwhile activities for MLK day (week) and I hope that you enjoy them. Of course, you can use them as cross curriculum since this is a historic subject being discussed in math class. Also, students can incorporate this into an additional writing assignment by having students attach his/her opinion about what the quote means to them or what they think that Dr. King meant by the quote.

All of the MLK activities that have the same cover sheet have matching quotes, just different types of math problems so that the classes with multiple levels can use the easier.
