A colorful activity on the solubility of M&M candies at different temperatures. Related science topics include solubility, density, and sinking and floating. All the science behind the solubility differences is explained so that the teacher can facilitate meaningful discussions. Includes an unexpected observation that fosters critical thinking skills.
Two different procedural approaches to measure the solubility are described and provided. The data table for each are included as is graph paper; both can be integrated into a laboratory notebook.
