This is a great reading and writing lesson I created for my classroom to teach students that writers create the mood, but readers must infer the mood.
This download includes flashcards for eight "mood" words that tripped up students and I noticed repeatedly on test prep materials and released standardized test: Defiance, Anxiety, Curious, Humorous, Excitement, Tension, Peaceful.
The document also includes a matching activity that will show students that in order to create a mood, the author leaves context clues through the character's actions.
There are a few practice paragraphs for student to practice finding mood text evidence.
At the conclusion of the unit, students will have an opportunity to create a story and embed text evidence of their own to create a particular mood.
