These are questions for 6 books from the “Pinky and Rex” series, by James Howe.
The 6 book titles are:
Pinky and Rex and the Perfect Pumpkin, Pinky and Rex Get Married, Pinky and Rex and the Mean Old Witch, Pinky and Rex and the School Play, Pinky and Rex and the New Neighbors, Pinky and Rex and the Spelling Bee
(Also included: blank template for printing on Post-its.)
For each of these books, I pre-read and then created questions for students to think about and answer while reading the book.
These questions can be printed directly onto 3x3 Post-its. Then, you can stick each question directly onto its corresponding page in the book.
Students can be directed to pause when they come to a post-it, think about it, and write a response (in their journal or on paper) before continuing their reading. (Sentence starters are provided for each question.) Then, you can have students discuss their responses with you and/or other students.
**To differentiate for “reluctant-writers” or perhaps a reader who struggles with working independently: 1. you could have those students use the provided sentence starters and answer the questions verbally, or 2. you could have them verbalize their answers first and then go write their answers.**
This is a great way to guide your students toward being active thinkers while reading!
