For "Mrs. Flowers," one part of Maya Angelou's autobiographical I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, here are questions to check reading comprehension. They are usable for both the textbook version as well as one found on line. In addition, there is a writing prompt referring to theme that focuses on intangibles, and a poetry exercise that emulates Marguerite - the protagonist in the story. Included are:
- Sixteen reading check questions, some of which are multiple part,
- A theme writing prompt on its own stationery,
- A word search for early finishers or just for fun,
- A poetry exercise with the text of three poems by well-known American poets to use in the exercise.
