Many atoms activities are a tad too complicated and not completely appropriate for middle school. This is perfectly suited to the middle school level, and a great platform - a starting point - for students to understand charges on an atom for the NGSS MS-PS2-3 and MS-PS2-5 standards.
This worksheet has students:
1. Identify the parts of an atom in a drawing.
2. Draw atoms when given the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons that are in it.
3. Identify atoms by looking at a drawing that includes p/e/n numbers.
Use this to introduce/review atoms before a unit on electrical charges, or also to introduce pure substances/elements in a NGSS MS-PS1-1 unit.
