Visual journals, or altered books, are a great continuous project for your art class. This art assignment is perfect for middle school or high school age students. The visual journals can serve as a weekly, monthly, or yearlong project.
See the presentation I use every year to introduce visual journals, or art journals, to my students. The PowerPoint includes prompts, page examples, how tos, and other tips and techniques for collaging and visual journaling. In addition to the PowerPoint, this also includes an in-depth lesson plan, complete with supplies, resources, implementation, vocabulary, a rubric, prompts, and national standards.
Visual journals are always my students' favorite project of the year. It is a space for them to express themselves, experiment with materials, and take a break from regular projects.
NEW: I have compiled ALL my visual journal resources (lesson plans, supply list, posters, worksheet, etc.) into one bundle pack (over half off at just $25): https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Visual-Journal-Bundle-Pack-Middle-or-High-School-Year-Long-Visual-Art-Project-2994136
