Product Description
Learning phonemic awareness is important to building a strong foundation for early reading success. Students who have strong phonemic awareness are more likely to be successful readers and are less likely to struggle with spelling and decoding words. Instruction in phonemic awareness reduces and alleviates reading and spelling difficulties (Adams, Foorman, Lundberg, & Beeler, 1998; Gillon, 2004; NICHD, 2000; Rath, 2001). The critical relationship between phonological awareness and learning to read any alphabetic writing system (as well as foreign languages) has been scientifically proven ((Ehri, 2004; Rath, 2001; Troia, 2004).

These Beginning Sounds Interactive Books are designed to make teaching phonological/phonemic awareness skills fast, fun, and effective. These books are made for:
*Beginning Readers and Spellers
*Pre-k through 1st Grade Students
*Struggling Readers

Included are one book in color or black and white for the following beginning sounds:
-M/S Beginning Sounds
-R/T Beginning Sounds
-M/S/R/T Beginning Sounds

This set includes 3 books that are 13 pages long each. Each book is available in black and white and has an alternative last page if you would like your students to practice with lowercase letters instead (or you can print both lower and upper case pages and mix and match the letters for added difficulty)

How do I use these books?
Each page has a picture on it. For example, page 1 of the M/S sound book has a snail on it. Below each picture is a Velcro-ready box. Your students will say what the picture is out loud, pick out the beginning sound, decide what letter makes that sound, and find the correct letter icon and stick it onto the box.

How do I set up these books?
Simply cut, laminate, hole punch, put on binder rings (or paper clips if you are in a pinch) and Velcro and your students can begin learning and practicing their beginning sounds. I purchase the Velcro and binder rings on bulk on Amazon for fairly cheap. The boxes on each page are made to accommodate circle or square Velcro pieces.

Alternative Uses:
*Print in black and white for each student to color and make their own book.
*Want to skip the velcro? Just have students write in the letters with dry erase markers
*Place book pages (or print pages out as “handouts”) on a cookie sheet and have students use magnetic letters.
*Mix and match book pages and letters to target specific letter sounds that you are teaching.
*Mix up the book pages and use them to sort and classify letter sounds.

For durable books you make once and use forever, you will need::
(1) A printer
(2) Laminator (for durability)
(3) Hole punch
(4) Binder rings (or large paper clips)
(5) Velcro (or dry erase markers/magnetic letters)
