MSV Cheat Sheet! Help is on the way! If you are new to running records or just need a refresher on what the codes are and which errors are which, then this is for YOU! Part of this product has been adapted from Fountas, I.C. & Pinnell, G.S. (1996). Portsmouth, NH: Heinemann. Fountas & Pinell's First Good Teaching
and Marie Clay's Running Records for Classroom Teachers
Designed to be a quick reference, you just need to print on cardstock, cut on dotted lines, fold, and laminate! This will be your handy reference while you are taking a running record and then after to help you analyze the errors the student makes! This can be used with any grade level, ELs, and Special Education kids. We all have a range of readers in our classes and a running record is one data point to help you meet your kids' needs.
Also included is and If...Then chart to help you determine next steps, as well as, self-monitoring strategies and questions to ask yourself when analyzing.
Also, included are data collection sheets that you can use for each of your groups. Part of good instruction in a small group is taking a daily running record on a text you’ve introduced or one that may have been read once and would be considered a “warm” read. The running record provides valuable insight into what errors the student uses and how to guide your instruction. The data sheets come in both portrait and landscape versions. Included on each sheet: date, instructional level, text type (fiction/informational), accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. There is space so that each child would have 4 running records completed in a month. The space for comprehension can be your own rubric for retelling, or questions that are literal or those on a deeper level.
Fluency scale is taken from NAEP National Assessment of Educational Progress and the accuracy scale is taken from Fountas and Pinell's Benchmark Assessment System
This product contains an explanation to help you in your diagnoses of your students’ reading behaviors.
