This ready-to-use, 19 page packet is designed for teachers to use with students, grades 3-6, as they read Mudshark, by Gary Paulsen. Included is an 11 page student booklet that divides the text into three reading assignments with questions and tasks to go with each one. Provided also is an answer key. In addition, there is a bookmark master for students to use to keep track of vocabulary words while reading the book and using the student booklet.
The questions and tasks in this booklet reinforce many skills that good readers and writers need. These include comprehension, vocabulary, inference, summarizing, predicting, and recognizing the elements of a mystery. The packet gives students practice in writing to explain their thinking and to demonstrate their understanding. At the end of the booklet is a crossword puzzle. The booklet is designed for independent work so that students can work on this in class while the teacher is meeting with another group. It could also be used for homework.
