This exercise provides practical but fun word problems that call for critical thinking and easy applications of how addition sentences correspond with multiplication. Please see Preview to determine suitability for your grade level. It contains 10 problems (ex. How many legs do 4 spiders have?) plus an extra credit problem, and requires the student to write appropriate addition and multiplication problems for each. Instructions and an example are given on the Student Page, and a detailed Answer Key is included for the teacher. The exercise is great seat work for students who have mastered the concept of multiplication, and provides an enrichment experience for students who might be ahead in math on their grade level. Students who cannot multiply larger digits can get the answers through the addition sentences they write.
