How do you multiply two monomials when they have a combination of constants, variables, and exponents? Do the exponents apply to the constants? Pre-algebra and Algebra textbooks are full of such problems, but still students get confused. However, now you can use these innovative flash cards to give your class a fresh perspective.
This kinesthetic activity consists of 50 cards – 25 sets of monomials and their products. Multiplication is expressed in two ways: with parentheses, and with a dot. Some products appear to be the same, but when your students look closer, they will discover that one is negative and one is positive!
For extra reinforcement, partners can copy their problems after all pairs have been matched.
When your students play MULTIPLY MONOMIALS WITH EXPONENTS FLASH CARD GAME, they are speaking the language of mathematics together. They teach each other, and they gain mastery. This activity is ideal for English Language Learners and Homeschoolers alike, and it is truly a valuable addition to a program that incorporates Common Core practice. – Created by Judy Seki for “Math in a Flash!”
