Middle School Rock Music Project
I have used this project with my Year 8 students for a number of years with great success and high completion rates. The project is handed out while they are completing the Instruments of Rock and Pop Unit (see my store for this product), but could be done without this unit of work.
The project is a Design Project based around a real or imaginary band/solo music artist. Students are asked to design a logo, t-shirt, album cover and create a song list. Some of my students go beyond what is expected and actually make a t-shirt with their design on it! I have even had students create a whole outfit based on their design!
Students are also asked to reflect on the process of the project with a series of questions based on ELLI— Effective Lifelong Learning Initiative. (google it and you will find stacks of resources!)
I usually start the project in class as many students wish to work together, then they complete it at home. I have also used this project as a cross curricular project with our Design and Technology Faculty— we divide and conquer who is teaching what and then mark the ONE project for the two subjects. This too has been a very successful joint venture.
I have deliberately left a space on a page for you to add in your own assessment outcomes. I also copy the Marking Criteria and the comments page onto one sheet— reduce by 70% on your photocopier to fit onto one page. This makes it much easier to handle while marking.
