Music for Advertising Project
This Music Composition project I have used with my Year 9 Elective Music students for a number of years with great success and high completion rates. I use class time to complete this project over approximately 10 lessons. Students like to work in pairs or small groups to complete the project. I have had students compose and create an advertisement that was played in the school sound system to promote the new anti-bullying policy, other students have focused on their own interests with advertisements for Imaginary Fishing shops and Imaginary silly products among many others.
The project could also be a cross-curricular effort between English Language Arts or even Technology/Computer Classes.
Students are asked to reflect on the process of the project and complete a Composition Diary. I have in the past asked students to submit progress work via MOODLE, but the choice is yours as to how you check on student progress.
I have deliberately left a space on a page for you to add in your own assessment outcomes. I also copy the Marking Criteria and the comments page onto one sheet— reduce by 70% on your photocopier to fit onto one page. This makes it much easier to handle while marking.
