This activity will require students to closely interact with the text of Act II of Macbeth. This activity is organized by scene and includes "hints" of the quotation that is being referenced. For example, in scene 2, the hint reads, "Find the line(s) that allows readers to see that Lady Macbeth might not be as “hard hearted” as she lets on." Students must then refer to the text to cite the quotation that is being described. This activity not only promotes close reading, but it also serves as a comprehensive study guide for students reviewing Act III as a whole.
Note: One hint references a novel the students read earlier in the year, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. If this is not relevant to your curriculum, you can either remove it or tweak it to reflect a piece of literature the students can connect to.
