Before starting Macbeth, I collect an in-class writing on 1 or 2 of the topics listed in this document. We don't do a lot of in-class writing, so in addition to thinking about issues in Macbeth, I use it as an opportunity to evaluate how my students can write within 1 class period.
Another way to use it is to have students respond to all questions, not focusing as much on the depth of their writing, but rather to get their opinion on each topic.
Instead of titling this "Macbeth Anticipation Guide," I change it to: "Shakespeare Anticipation Guide" in case my students already know something about Macbeth. I don't want them to know ahead of time what we will be studying, but rather answer the questions open-mindedly.
