A breakout box kit is not needed for this game.
Engage your students by having them play this digital escape room game after your study of Macbeth. This activity is designed for students studying British literature or enrolled in an AP course. Students will work in small groups to solve puzzles in order to "escape the room." This is a no prep activity--all you need to do is share a link to the game! You can share the link by posting it in your online classroom, by projecting it from your laptop, by writing it on the board, or by printing it out for students. Easy!
The game includes a self-checking Google Form, so you can step back and let students pace themselves. Once students break out, they will get a congratulations message they can show to you to let you know they've finished. For differentiation purposes, I've included a teacher guide with visuals and hints to help you coach struggling students.
This game should take average high school students about 40 minutes to play--you can adjust the time if needed. Students will review/explore the following concepts:
Meter and sound devices used in the witches' song from Act IV
✶Shakespeare's intentional use of meter
Characters and quotations from the play
The idea of appearance vs. reality in the play
✶the floating dagger
✶the ghost of Banquo
A performance and reading of Lady Macbeth's "raven" soliloquy from Act I
Students will unscramble the soliloquy as they listen/read to determine the code
The sequence of significance plot events from throughout the play
Students will place plot events in order to find the code
