This final Macbeth project requires students to analyze one scene from the play in detail. Based on their own interpretations, students explain how they will set the stage and design costumes. They also analyze literary devices like theme and motif, and are required to annotate the scene with stage directions.
Students can work together in groups or independently. Assigning different scenes to the groups makes it more interesting for students to share their work with the whole class.
This project will stimulate critical thinking! Students learn so much from this assignment because it's manageable for them to work with one scene, but they analyze many aspects of it so that they develop deeper insights about Shakespeare's possible intent and what makes the play a classic.
