Instructions for a final (summative) project on Macbeth, designed to encourage student creativity and collaboration. Students choose one of three options for their project: an individual director's binder, an individual or small-group performance of a 5-minute scene on video, or a large-group performance of the entire play in under 10 minutes. All students compose a reflective essay on the process as well.
This makes for a great closing to Macbeth; students work together, have fun, and experience the challenges of producing a stage work. It allows for a variety of approaches to accommodate more shy students, and usually results in a very fun-filled last day of watching student videos.
I recommend introducing this project sometime during the middle point of your unit; I try to give students at least two weekends to help them film. Plus, an early introduction helps students plan and collaborate more effectively.
Product includes guidelines for each project option, instructions for reflective essay, suggested list of scenes, and rubrics for videos, binders, and reflective essays.
