PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The following product takes a different spin on poetry by using Shakespeare's play, Macbeth, as a springboard for analysis and interpretation of a difficult text. The 30-page document includes the items listed below:

1. Overview of Shakespeare, Supernatural, and Style - An anticipation guide asks questions about students' opinions on the themes of Macbeth - from free will to fate to gender and violence. The first pages include brief notes on the elements of Greek tragedy and Shakespearean tragedy. Maps of Scotland are included to familiarize students with the location of the play. A Teacher answer key is included for the guided notes. Finally, excerpts on the supernatural beliefs during Shakespeare's time are included as well as questions that go with a video. This video is from PBS Learning. Google the title if you'd like to include.

2. Macbeth Analysis and Interpretation - For each scene, a table of Who, Where, When, What, and Why and 2-6 questions are included. The table is designed for students to identify the basics of each scene. The questions frequently ask about themes of the play, interpretation of important lines, as well as other literary devices. Due to the nature of the questions, an answer key is not included. Answers will vary based on students' interpretation.

3. The Final Act - Directions and rubric for a final scene. Students create a modern version of an assigned act from Macbeth and present to the class. Ideas are also listed to get them started.

4. Poetry Portfolio Project - As students explore the world of Macbeth, they will also be exploring the themes presented in Shakespeare's work in their own lives. Students create at least 6 poems and compile them into a comprehensive portfolio - cover, title page, table of contents, forward, and poems. A rubric is included for the final product.

5. Poems - Students create unique poetry using alternative methods. They try their hand at found/blackout poetry, shape poetry, weaving poem, dandelion wish poem, a self-portrait, and finally a group poem mobile. Directions are included for each poem as well as pictures to help students visualize the assignment.
