I use this activity as a way to help my students visualize the apparitions in Act I. A lot of my students usually say, "Whoa. Wait. What is going on??" when we read this scene together. Sketching a simple drawing allows them to go back to the text and process the scene. I typically give this assignment at the end of the period as a homework assignment; by the end of the play, they are usually asking to do something like this again. They say it helps them to not only visualize the scene but to remember the significance of the prophecies throughout the play. I generally share some of the drawings with the class when the students return with their homework the next day.
