This assignment has students craft the lines from a missing scene in Macbeth. They have four choices: Duncan's murder, the decision to name Macbeth king, Lady Macbeth's suicide, and Macbeth's death (though our textbook shows a line where Macbeth dies, I still give students the option to add in some details and dialogue).
My students really enjoy this assignment. Some of them truly surprise and impress me with the elegance and creativity of the lines they crafted! When we have time, and when my students are the type who would enjoy it, I have students get into groups of 3-4 the next day and choose one group member's scene to act out for the class. I let them read it and practice it for some of the class period, then the rest is spent performing. Depending on class size and the number or students who wrote in groups or individually, I let everyone perform their scenes.
