This absolutely fabulous documentary explains how the Inca Empire changed from war torn, starving and small, to enormous and peaceful within 50 years in a completely non-violent way. The viewer learns of the technology and wisdom of the Inca Emperors and the significance of Machu Picchu to the empire. While the narrative voice is English, there are many interviews conducted in Spanish and subtitled in English. This 45 minute documentary is full of beautiful scenery, pleasant music, great historical information, all of which create a truly informative view of the Inca Empire.
This editable 50 question documentary guide I have written will keep your students attentive during the documentary and leave them with great notes. I recommend having students compare notes after the video. They are likely to talk about the politics of the Empire and do some comparison/contrast with politics in America today. If you’re interested in showing this movie to your history students and guiding them through some political conversations, you won’t lack for topics.
