I’ve used this journal in my Kindergarten class for several years. It begins with simple expectations for writing, such as 2-3 lines. Towards the end of the year, you’ll see more lines for writing text.
Some of the pages are open ended, others include prompts from the Macmillan Teacher’s Edition, the weekly stories.
This is a wonderful way to show growth. I printed the packet in black and white, 3-hole punched and put in a pocket folder.
I kept them in a tub until we were ready to write, thus keeping them nice for parent conferences.
When I saw a great lesson and wonderful writers, I went back and printed out the color copy. The color copies were for the final write, after edits. These were displayed on bulletin boards.
