Mad Mad Math Money is a race to win the most money...do the math and get that money!
This is a game with the mission to help spread the truth that math is fun and a part of everyday life -- even in games. That said, this game is way more than being about math. It is a fun and exciting game driven by the competition of trying to collect the most money during the time played. Once you get into a playing session, it is hard to stop. You want to keep going and pushing yourself to find a way to be the one that gets paid. Will you be practicing some basic math skills? Sure. But you won’t feel like you are, I promise!
From a teaching perspective, Mad Mad Math Money is a fun way for students to practice basic math skills. Math is the driving force game play, and after players get used to how to play they forget they are practicing math. It helps students practice multiplication tables, mental addition and subtraction, orders of operations, and just a tiny bit of division and exponents (in the form of squaring numbers).
The game is appropriate for use with students in forth grade and up and can be modified for younger students (see the last page of the instructions). One thing that has surprised me most in playing with students of all ages is that high school students have as much fun as forth and fifth graders...and adults have loved it almost as much!
It is really a fun game, and it definitely gives you a new way to get students to practice math!
