An EASY way to learn how to read an orchestral score for elementary school students. Using the song "Mary Had a Little Lamb", students will read a simplified score that consists of 4 instruments (agogo bell, tambourine, maracas, and triangle) with pictures of the instruments written above the lyrics to indicate when each instrument is to be played. Students will then use the score to determine which words should have a quarter note, or a quarter rest written above the words in each individual part. This is an activity that will engage the students individually as well as in small groups and in a large class. Students will also be able to use the score to practice conducting different sections.
