Students are "hired" by an advertisement campaign to help boost sales for the elements on the Periodic Table. They have the option to design a convincing advertisement in the form of a magazine ad (small poster on cardboard the size of a cereal box) or a TV commercial (1 to 2 minute video clip on a flash drive).
The students like having the choice of project, and they do a great job researching and getting creative!
Part of the project is to complete the fact sheet, which requires them to use a minimum of three sources, which must be cited in MLA format. Four website suggestions are given in the directions for the project. I take my students to the computer lab for this part.
A rubric is provided that will allow you to set the point values for the various requirements as you wish.
I have my students complete this project individually, but it could be a partnered project too. Just grab a Periodic Table and make sure as many elements are represented as possible so you will have great, unique classroom decor and fun videos to watch!
