***Editor's note: We have been asked a few times why Maggie Walker is described as, "bad and boujee." This article explains much of the historical use of the words "bad." This article also explains the use of word "boujee." Our use of the word follows those historical uses. We also use the word because many students are familiar with those terms. Describing Maggie as "affluent" or "wealthy" has no resonance with most students. However, they are familiar with the various nuances of the words "bad, boujee" and clearly understand this description in reference to Maggie Walker.
