"Magic Notes!" Designed to catch students attention and keep it! This is a note naming flash card reading powerpoint. It reviews the mechanics of music reading on the treble staff and introduces the space notes, F A C E. There is an informational section, a flash card section, and then a game section. In this game, note pitches that look like apples appear as fast as an individual can name them, powered by the teacher clicking the mouse. Each student is timed using the stop watch on my cell phone. Kids love being competitive with each other for the fastest time naming the notes. My goal is to improve their processing time for naming the notes of the treble clef. One of the huge benefits of teaching at multiple schools is the ability to try out my lessons and powerpoints over and over, providing lots of opportunity for revisions after I try things with students. I am planning to create a "Magic Notes" zip pack, with lots of different level powerpoints to work on a few note names at a time in a sequential way. This is a great way to include formative assessment into the music class! Print out a chart with student's names and record their individual note naming times. The fastest time I had this week was 7.43 seconds for 15 notes, by a 7th grader.
I hope this is useful to you,
