This product includes seven Magic Square vocabulary templates; four for nine words and three for sixteen words. This is an excellent scaffolding strategy for ELL and Special Needs students, but can be used for everyone in your classroom. Easy, step-by-step directions for teachers are included. It only takes about ten minutes to copy and paste a list of vocabulary words and definitions into the template. Once in the classroom, students write the number of the definition under the correct vocabulary term in the box. Students will be able to check their answers by adding up the rows and columns. The templates with nine words will equal fifteen, and the templates with sixteen words will equal thirty-four.
I use these templates with my ELL students when teaching vocabulary from their content classes. My students like the fact that they have the numbers to guide their answers until they become more familiar with the vocabulary. This is also an ideal format for an ELL vocabulary test in a content classroom, because it provides the extra scaffold that ELL students often need in order to be successful.
