Every book in The Magic Treehouse series by Mary Pope Osborne is a combination of fantasy and non-fiction. Jack and Annie, the intrepid brother and sister team who are the main characters in every story, are magically transported to interesting historical places and events. Once there, they learn facts about their destination while trying to complete the tasks assigned them by Morgan, the magical librarian of Camelot. In Midnight on the Moon, the children search for a fourth magical object starting with the letter M and learn facts about man's exploration of our planet's satellite in the process.
This literature unit consists of 19 pages. The first page is a cloze worksheet that summarizes the book's introductory prologue. Each of the next ten chapters is followed by a page of comprehension questions. The last three pages require students to recall the correct order of events as they occurred in the story, recall important facts they might have learned about the moon, and fill in a story map summarizing the story's main events. Any of these last three pages could be used as an assessment of the child's comprehension. A complete answer key is included in this download.
