Students locate family members in Italian with either definite or indefinite articles and put the corresponding number in the correct square. Once they have located all phrases and every square has a number in it, they add up the numbers. If the numbers equal to 34 horizontally, vertically and diagonally, everything is correct. If they don't, they have to find the error and correct it so that the numbers equal to 34. The articles that are practiced in this magic square are: uno, un, una, alcuni, alcune, il, la, i, le. My students LOVE solving magic squares, and it's challenging enough yet fun, and self-correcting. Enjoy!
