How to use this lesson:
1. Provide one student handout per student.
2. Cut the quotes into strips and place around the room.
3. Have students rotate around the room and fill in the chart. Students will interpret the quotes and compare them to today. Some of the quotes apply to today's world and others were specific to Medieval England.
4. Discuss student answers and answer the Key Question at the bottom of the chart.
Tip: Preview the vocabulary of the quotes and pre-teach terms your students may struggle with. For example, I teach the term "lords" in feudalism, but the quotes use other terms for similarly ranked people like barons. This will lessen the likelihood that struggling students will give up and not participate.
