Compare the strength of magnets, test out how a magnet can affect a compass, and use magnetic shavings to illustrate a magnetic field!
This is a collection of three separate magnet activities designed to be done on the same day at three different stations. The stations can be completed in any order! This is a great introduction to magnets and their properties. They will explore how magnetic powder orients itself around a bar magnet, how compasses react to nearby magnets, and apply the concepts of a magnet field to the whole Earth. In the final station, they complete a simple experiment to compare the strength of several magnets. This was designed for high school freshmen, but could easily be modified for younger students.
Your students will love this and have fun doing it!
