Product Description
This 13-page packet provides you with almost everything you need to go "magnet fishing" with elementary students.

Although this lesson hits several scientific reasoning standards, I mainly use it to teach my first graders Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills 1.6B: "Predict and describe how a magnet can be used to push or pull an object."

This packet contains the following:
- 2 pages of notes to you, including how to edit certain pages in this document and tips for teaching this lesson successfully
- a 3-page, detailed lesson plan with pictures of students in action
- 1 full page, non-editable recording sheet
- 1 full page recording sheet with editable graph
- 1 page with 2 non-editable recording sheets {each take up half a page} -- these fit perfectly in a science notebook and/or help you save paper!
- 1 page with 2 recording sheets {each take up half a page} with editable graphs
- 1 page containing 5 graph templates
- 24 colored "large fish" to print/laminate/cut -- totally optional, but might make the lesson more fun. :)
- 24 colored "small fish" to print/laminate/cute -- totally optional, as well
- 1 page of suggested literature that correlates with the lesson -- links provided to quickly and easily purchase the books

The packet downloads as a zipped file, so please make sure you have the ability to unzip files before purchasing. After unzipping, the lesson plan and components will open in PowerPoint. As stated above, two pages are editable, while the rest are not.

For this lesson, you will need:
- 1 magnet for each group of students {a ring magnet is preferred but not necessary}
- 1 piece of sturdy string {braided yarn pieces, twine, fishing wire, kite string, etc.} for each group of students
- a few boxes of large paper clips
- a few boxes of small paper clips
- 2 brown lunch sacks or small buckets for each group of students

All other materials mentioned in this unit are optional. :)
