PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Reinforce your students’ vocabulary with the Magnets Multi-Sensory VocabularyGame! This game contains 60 game cards that focus on 12 vocabulary words related to magnets!

The “Magnets Multi-Sensory Vocabulary Game” is a series of 60 cards that students can use to reinforce their knowledge of vocabulary words related to magnets.

Vocabulary Words

The vocabulary words included in this game are: appearance, attract, bar magnet, compass, disc magnet, horseshoe magnet, magnet, magnetism, poles, pull, push, and repel.

Game Cards

The 60 vocabulary game cards contain different actions that appeal to visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learners. There are five types of cards included in this vocabulary game. They are:

Draw It: Each “Draw It” card contains the vocabulary word and its’ definition. If a student picks this card, he/she draws pictures on a white board related to the word on the card. The rest of the team tries to “guess” the word. If the team guesses the word, they get a point.

Use It In a Sentence: Each “Use It In a Sentence” card also contains the vocabulary word and its definition. Students read the word and the definition and then come up with a sentence that demonstrates their understanding of the vocabulary word. If the student uses the word correctly, their team gets a point.

Describe It: The “Describe It” cards only contain the vocabulary words. Students who draw one of these cards must describe the vocabulary word to their teammates. They cannot “say” the word in their description. After the student “describes” the word, their teammates try to “guess” the word. If the team guesses the word correctly, they get a point.

Act It Out: Each “Act It Out” card contains a vocabulary word and its’ definition. If a student draw one of these cards, they must either use an action to represent the word or act out a scenario using the word. As the student “acts” out the word, their teammates try to “guess” the word. If they are successful, they get a point for their team.

Name It: The “Name It” cards only contain the definitions of the different vocabulary words. Students who draw these cards must read the definition and then “name” the vocabulary word. If the student correctly identifies the word, their team gets a point.

Game Directions

Step One: Cut the game cards apart. Mix up all the cards and place them in a stack on a table or put them into a bucket or envelope.

Step Two: Divide the students into two teams - Team A and Team B.

Step Three: One student from Team A draws a card from the pile, bucket, or envelope. The student follows the instructions on the game card.

Step Four: If successful, Team A gets a point.

Step Five: A student from Team B draws a card from the pile, bucket, or envelope. The student follows the instructions on the game card.

Step Six: If successful, Team B gets a point.

Step Seven: Play continues back and forth until one team reaches a pre-determined number of points or until a set amount of time has passed.

There are two sets of game cards included in this package - one set is black and white and one set is colored.

Game Suggestions

The purpose of this vocabulary game is to practice using and reinforcing the meanings of the different vocabulary words. There are a variety of different ways the game cards could be used in the classroom.

Possible options include:

Play the Magnets Multi-Sensory Vocabulary Game with the entire class, with small groups of students, or with partners.

Use the game as an anchor activity or a center activity for students to complete with a partner in their spare time.

Keep the game cards on the teacher’s desk. Whenever you have a spare few minutes, ask different students to draw a card and have the class follow the directions on the card.

Put the “Name It” or “Describe It” cards in an envelope. At the end of class, draw out two to four of the cards. Post these on the board. Give students a piece of scrap paper. As an exit activity, students write the vocabulary words for the “Name It” cards and the definitions for the “Describe It” cards.

Ask students to create a game board or come up with a new idea for using the game cards to practice the magnets vocabulary.
