This is a fun and easy hands on activity for students to do to explore magnets and how the south and north poles attract or repel.
Rubber band one magnet to a small toy car, and allow the students in groups to use another magnet to make the car "mysteriously move" without touching it (using the repelling property of magnets). Using magnets that are clearly marked positive and negative are also beneficial.
This helps students think like scientists by having them think about what could happen on the first side (pre-activity) and examining results (post activity) on the back page. This worksheet also introduces the idea of friction and its effect on a moving object by asking the students to try moving the car with magnets on both tile and a carpeted rug.
