This is a one-page file that includes two mini-sheets students can cut out and put in their interactive math notebooks. It is hand-sketched, so I apologize if the clarity is off by any means. Hence, it's free! =)
It relates volume and surface area to mailing packages during the holiday season. Fifth grade is when students begin learning about volume and surface area, yet fourth graders who need enrichment can learn from this file. Sixth graders and seventh graders can also benefit.
Volume: 2,000 cubic inches
Surface Area: 200 + 200 + 100 + 100 + 200 + 200= 1,000 square inches
Bottom problem: Volume: 1,890 cubic inches
Surface Area: 157.5 + 157.5 + 126 + 126 + 180 + 180= 927 square inches
