Students identify six details in a reading passage of your choosing. As they are reading, the can write each detail on a puzzle piece. After they have completed the puzzle pieces, they can cut them out and paste the pieces together on the second page. The completed puzzle is a visual representation of how details combine to create a main idea. Below the puzzle is an area where the students write the main idea.
This is a great activity to display in the hallway. This works well for whole group instruction, reading groups, or for homework.
