Use these 8 story task cards to help your students gain confidence in determining the main idea and details of an informational text. There are two different answer sheets so you may differentiate as needed. One answer sheet is multiple choice main idea and write-in details and the other is short answer. There are also answer keys for each sheet so students can check their own work. Please be aware that the main ideas can be phrased in several different ways. Also, task cards may include more than three details. I chose three for the answer keys, but any other details that support the main idea are acceptable answers. There are two challenge cards included with three activities on each card to deepen understanding and extend learning. There is one poster on main idea and details, one poster on summarizing, and two different graphic organizers. These are a great visual resource for students to reference. You can use this product as a center activity or a whole-class lesson. My students especially enjoy working on these task cards with a partner or in a small group. Please note that I have carefully written and looked over this product. If you find a mistake, please let me know and I will be sure to correct it.
