There are 4 main idea flip books and 5 worksheets. There is a blank flip book and 2 sets of the worksheets for differentiated instruction.
There are 4 flip books with 3 main idea categories on each flip book. Students need to sort them under the correct heading. There is also a flip book without headings.
For more of a challenge, give your students the answer choices, have them sort them, and then come up with their own heading on the blank flip book.
Another option for the blank heading flip book is to have your students write a heading there and come up with their own answer choices. Or you can fill your own heading in before copying. Students can also fill a heading in and then have a partner come up with things that would fit the main idea category.
Then, there are 5 worksheets where the students will read a paragraph and determine the main idea. There are 2 sets.
Set 1 - The students read the paragraph, look at 3 main idea choices, pick the main idea, and glue it on the worksheet.
Set 2 - The students read the paragraph, figure out the main idea on their own, and write it in on the worksheet.
