These Main Idea Games target reading strategies and comprehension. It includes 3 games (with a total of 126 game cards) which are differentiated for different reading levels or for scaffolding. The games are engaging for kids and time saving for you as a busy teacher!
Here’s what’s included:
3 Colorful Game Boards and 3 Black and White Game Boards
3 Sets of Game Cards: (42 cards per set)
Set 1: Kids look at the list of four items on the card and name the category or main idea. This is the easiest set and a good place to start.
Set 2: There are four supporting detail sentences listed. Students read the supporting details, figure out what they have in common, and identify the main idea.
Set 3: On these cards, the main idea is listed and there are three supporting detail sentences below it. Only one of these sentences matches the main idea. This is a challenging set because usually, the supporting details are somehow related to the main idea, but only one directly fits it.
Detailed Teacher Notes
To make the game boards and the game cards last for several years, I recommend copying them on cardstock and laminating them or attaching them to construction paper and then laminating them. They also look great using neon or bright paper!
Games are a motivating way for kids to practice key ideas. These main idea games are a great addition to your reading materials! They may be used for reading time, for centers, for whole class activities, for one on one tutoring and more!
******* PLEASE NOTE: These games are also included in a very comprehensive Main Idea Kit with 5 passages, 3 sorts, 3 matching pages, 3 sets of task cards, plus this set of 3 games! It is deeply discounted at $12.00 for 135 pages. To check it out, click here:
