I use this graphic organizer in my guided reading groups. After we read a book, the students take turns listing things that happened in the book. I place this sheet in a plastic sleeve and use a dry erase marker. The teacher can write the main idea in the box, and writes the details next to the bullet points as the students share (See 2nd picture for an example). This is a great guided reading tool to help younger students learn how to retell the most important details. I use this organizer for levels A, B, and C. The next day, I asked students what the story is about. If they have trouble recalling details we refer to this chart.
