I created and bundled 3 different lesson plans for teaching Main Idea and Details. The first lesson focuses on using the first sentences of a paragraph to determine the main idea, the second lesson teaches students to look for repeated words in a paragraph, and the third lesson engages students in using multiple strategies to find the main idea of a paragraph, and to put together all details and ideas to determine the main idea of an article. The second lesson can be broken into two sessions, and therefore these plans can last through a week, so it is one less week you have to write reading teaching plans for (if main idea is the focus). All lessons are formal plans that include the paragraphs for shared/independent reading, as well as pictures of the anchor charts and student materials to print out. I also included student work samples. The third lesson involves reading an article that was published in Ranger Rick, and there is a link to the PDF of that article. IF YOU CAN'T GET THE ARTICLE ONLINE THROUGH THE LINK, PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH YOUR EMAIL AND I WILL SEND IT TO YOU.
