We provide the ‘meat’ or the content, while your class chooses the ‘beat’ or tune to sing along with. At LiteRAPcity, we create memorable raps and anchor charts to internalize key reading strategies and skills.

Main Idea Steps:

1) Name the topic

2) Explain the topic

3) Review events

4) Polish it down

5) Take out opinions, predictions, inferences

Review synonyms to main idea (which are seen frequently on NWEA MAP)

There is a reason you can’t get jingles out of your head, or you can spontaneously sing the lyrics to an 80’s song you haven’t heard in years; learning through song makes content stick! Help your students internalize key reading strategies and skills by teaching them our catchy raps. Not only will they memorize important lifelong information, but they (and you!) will have fun doing it! If only our lives could turn into one giant musical … we’d be memory machines!

Each rap comes with an anchor chart to help students remember the key information. This anchor chart has an “info packed” version to help students learn key information, and a “simplified” version to use as a prompt when starting to memorize the rap.

What's included:

  • Engaging, catchy rap
  • Anchor chart with all key information
  • Visual cue chart for scaffolding (multiple versions with words, just pictures etc.)
  • Fill-in-the-blanks lyrics quiz with answer key

When to Use:

  • Before high stakes testing (this material is on NWEA MAP!)
  • Introducing/reviewing main idea
  • Extension activity
  • Centers work
