A main idea poster project that works with ANY expository text!
I designed this project for my 5th grade reading class, but it is adaptable to any elementary/middle school grade and subject using an expository text. This project has students use a graphic organizer (included although you may use any main idea organizer) to identify main ideas and supporting details in an expository text. This is a great project for text that has more than one main idea. Students must identify the topic (Biggest idea), several main ideas (big idea) and supporting details (little ideas). After doing this they must create or identify a symbol of the idea and explain why they chose that symbol. I have included a blank outline of the project as well as a completed sample. You may choose to have students do the entire project on the blank outline or to transfer their ideas to poster paper.
