Lesson 1: Students are becoming exposed to the concept of what it means to have a Main Idea in a text. Students are breaking down the skill and learning about different strategies they can use to help identify the Main Idea by creating a note-taking flipbook. They then continue on to complete picture puzzles to help them see how Main Idea and Details are related.
Lesson 2: Students analyze stories and begin to search for the Main Idea and supporting details throughout the text. They add a bit of color by color-coding the sentences according to the key at the top. Both thewhole group and small group passages are included.
Lesson 3: Students evaluate sentences outside of a story and determine whether or not they are Main Ideas or Details. They then glue them onto a construction paper mat for their finished activity.
Lesson 4: Students will read different short stories and use the Placemat Consensus cooperative learning strategy to use different Main Idea strategies and create the main idea independently and with their group.
Lesson 5: Students get to apply their knowledge of Main Idea and Details by creating a flipbook. Multiple stories are available for students to choose from. In the flipbook, students must write out the Main Idea and Details without any support.
All activities are more hands on than normal 'worksheets'. Direction pages and real photographs are also included! A graphic organizer, bookmark, anchor chart, craftivity, & center are all also included!
Digital materials included are made for Google Classroom, Google Slides, and PowerPoint.
